Dopslaff of The Starsong Foundation and JoLynn Long of JD Spirit,
the award celebrates the legacy of the late singer/songwriter John
Denver.
The Award was given to Broadway
producer Stewart F. Lane for promoting the world renowned
singer/songwriter John Denver’s music and the positive impact his
music has made on society. Mr. Lane is the creator of “A Moment In
Time,” a new Broadway musical with music and lyrics by John Denver,
and an original story. A developmental reading of the new musical is
planned for later this month in New York City.

along with a dedication of a park bench in honor of the occasion.

One of the world’s
best-known and best-loved performers, John Denver earned
international acclaim as a songwriter, performer, actor,
environmentalist and humanitarian. Denver’s career spanned four
decades and his music has outlasted countless musical trends and
garnered numerous awards and honors.
Denver contributed his
talents to the benefit of many charitable and environmental causes
and received numerous civic and humanitarian awards over the years.
Fans responded to his heartfelt urgings about ecology, peace, and
compassion that were consistently delivered in a gentle manner on
his records and at live performances.
John Denver died
tragically in a plane crash on October 12, 1997. Today, millions of
fans old and new enjoy the work of this extraordinary performer. His
humanitarian work continues to strengthen our global village, and
his dynamic celebration of life, spirit and nature is a powerful

For the John Denver Tribute Concert
at the Wheeler Opera House in October, 2009, the benefiting
charity was The Aspen Camp for the Deaf. Their
appreciation is shown in the following message sent to their
constituents:
The event
was a fun event with packed houses both
nights. Our table, silent auction,
t-shirt and program sales totaled a
little over $5,000, thus far, but not
everything has been reconciled as we had
joint items with Windstar. I should have
that total sometime today or tomorrow.
Additionally, we should still have a
donation from the Expect a Miracle
Foundation from their ticket sales.
Plus Karmen Dopslaff donated to both
camps for an online auction a bas-relief
of John Denver (one of two in the
world). It’s estimated value is $18,000.
Several of
our board members and honorary board
members attended with positive reviews.
Karmen literally packed the house. The
energy was amazing. The children signing
was heart-warming and such a good “plug”
for the camp. Wish you could have all
been there.

From 9News.com:
ASPEN - In
just a few weeks, some of the people who knew John
Denver best, will be gathering at the Wheeler Opera
House in Aspen to share their memories, just a couple
of days before the 10th anniversary of his death.
The event,
planned for Wednesday, October 10 at 8pm, will bring
together old friends and fellow music makers for "John
Denver's Storytellers Unplugged" at The Wheeler Opera
House in Aspen.
The evening promises to be an intimate, living room
experience highlighted by rare recollections and music
by some of John Denver's closest friends, colleagues
and confidants.
Fans of Denver's music will sit in on a
'fly-on-the-wall' conversation centered on personal
accounts of life on and off the road with Denver.
"John Denver's Storytellers Unplugged" was created as
a response to the record-breaking sell-out of the 10th
Anniversary John Denver Tribute and all proceeds
benefit Challenge Aspen.
"This night is really a time for some of John's
closest friends to enjoy being together in a relaxed
environment to share stories in the round, explains
Kenn Roberts, one of the producers of the sold out
John Denver Tribute, scheduled the following night.
"It's no surprise that, year after year, fans continue
to make their pilgrimage to Aspen to celebrate John's
life. We expect some interesting repartee from all of
these guys, speaking to John's personality, his off
the road interests and their experiences with John as
a pilot."
Roberts adds, "What's so special about this, is that
these are all friends who have been carefully chosen
and who remain very good friends and they're as
excited to be together as we are to produce this
unique event."
John Denver's longtime business partner and close
friend, Michael Shore, who was with Denver on a
camping trip when he wrote 'Rocky Mountain High,' is
looking forward to adding some great stories to the
mix. Joining Shore in the list of close friends slated
to share tales and tunes are Tom Crum, Denny Brooks,
Jim Horn, Barney Wyckoff (former Road Manager), Bill
Danoff and John Sommers.
The event is a benefit for Challenge Aspen, which,
among other things, provides wilderness experiences
for people with disabilities.
Tickets are $100 and available at The Wheeler Box
Office in Aspen, by calling 866-449-0464, 970-920-5770
or online at
www.wheeleroperahouse.com. All seating is reserved
and includes complimentary hors d'oeuvres, wine and
champagne. One-of-a-kind items will be offered during
a brief, auction during the evening.

A Note
from Karmen about John
Denver
The John Denver tribute shows began TEN years ago with
the untimely death of one of America’s great musical icons, John Denver.
Band members, song writers, producers, and other musical colleagues
gathered in Aspen in October of 1997 to celebrate John's life. From this
emerged a group of performers that has since toured the USA celebrating
and performing John's music. Again in 2007, special 10th anniversary
tribute concerts will be given in Aspen, CO for the benefit of Challenge
Aspen.

“gang” returns, many former band members, songwriters and colleagues of
John Denver’s will be performing again this year! We have no further
